Hurricane Food Forest Prep in Florida

The first summer we planted real roots, I watched a neighbor lose half his young fruit trees to one long night of wind. Lights out, branches down, and a yard that looked like a blender had a bad day. That is when I realized something simple. Hope is not a plan. If you grow food in Florida, you prepare before the storm shows up on the radar.

I made this video to walk you through the exact hurricane prep I use in our family food forest in West Central Florida. It is practical, calm, and built for real life. The goal is not perfection. The goal is to protect your trees, save your harvest, and bounce back fast.

Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30. Risk climbs in mid to late summer, then peaks from the middle of August through October. Waiting until a watch becomes a warning is how good gardens get wrecked. This guide gives you a clear checklist so you can act early.

Important note
This content is educational. Always follow local emergency guidance and evacuation orders. Do not take risks to save plants. Secure structures responsibly and consult licensed professionals when needed.

A Note From Me

I started GrowFitFL to share what I’ve learned about gardening, health, and fitness right here in Florida. Everything you see on this site comes from my own experiences building a backyard food forest, raising a family, and staying healthy.

What I share is meant to inspire and educate, not to replace professional medical, financial, or legal advice. If you’re making big decisions about your health, your money, or anything serious, please talk to a qualified professional.

From time to time, I may recommend products, tools, or plants that I personally use. Some of the links you see might be affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you decide to purchase at no extra cost to you. I only recommend what I believe in and what I’ve tested myself.

My goal is simple: help you grow food, stay fit, and create freedom in your own backyard.
